Child Protection Policy

SHIP works directly with Children Living with HIV (CLHIV) and HIV-affected children as a core part of its mission. This Child Protection Policy is a good-faith template reflecting SHIP's commitment to safeguarding - SHIP recommends a formal legal and child-safeguarding-specialist review before this policy is treated as final and operational.

Our Commitment

Every child who engages with SHIP's programmes - through education support, nutrition, counselling, or community events - has the right to be safe from harm, abuse, neglect, discrimination and exploitation. SHIP is committed to creating an environment where children are protected, respected and heard.

Guiding Principles

• The best interests of the child come first in every decision.
• Children are never discriminated against on the basis of HIV status.
• All staff and volunteers working with children undergo an orientation on child safeguarding expectations.
• Concerns about a child's safety are treated seriously and confidentially.
• Photography or storytelling involving children follows consent and dignity guidelines - no child is identified without appropriate consent from a guardian.
