SHIP's HIV prevention work is built on the understanding that accurate information, delivered by trusted community voices, is one of the most powerful tools against the spread of HIV. Since 2003, SHIP has run sustained awareness campaigns across Guntur District, working alongside peer educators, health workers and community leaders.
Prevention activities combine general public awareness with targeted, positive-prevention education for people already living with HIV - helping them protect their own health and the health of their partners and families. Condom promotion and behaviour-change communication are delivered through respectful, non-judgmental community sessions rather than one-off lectures.
This programme works closely with government health systems (NACO and APSACS) and international technical partners to keep messaging current with national HIV prevention guidance.
