Women living with HIV (WLHIV) often carry a double burden - managing their own health while facing gender-based discrimination in the family, workplace and community. SHIP's Women Empowerment programme works to shift that balance, building women's leadership, economic independence and equal participation in community life.
At the centre of this work are women's support groups, spaces where women can access sexual and reproductive health information, legal literacy, and mental health and psychosocial counselling among peers who understand their experience.
SHIP also links women to livelihood opportunities, financial literacy training and government welfare and self-help group schemes - helping build not just resilience, but genuine economic independence and leadership within community networks.
